Discussing Participatory ChinatownMake your voice heard - shape the real Chinatown through virtual Chinatown

ACDC and our partners are hosting a community meeting on Monday, May 3rd to discuss the development for the area south of the Turnpike in Boston's Chinatown.  While interacting with enhanced virtual environments, attendees of this meeting will learn about issues that affect land-use planning in Chinatown and be asked to give feedback about potential development scenarios for the neighborhood.

In 'Participatory Chinatown', community members complete "quests" as one of the game's virtual residents, allowing them to walk the neighborhood streets in the shoes of someone else. There's Hong, a recent immigrant seeking an apartment for his family; and Karen, a fourth-grade student searching the neighborhood for after-school activities. Meeting attendees will learn about planning in Chinatown and be asked to give feedback about potential future development scenarios for the area south of the Turnpike, between Boston's Chinatown and the South End. Findings from the meeting will be fed back to the Chinatown master planning process.

We especially welcome Chinatown residents and community members to be participants.  All ages welcome!  The video game will be in both Chinese and English. The meeting will be translated into Cantonese, and bilingual youth will be present to assist attendees in need of language or technical support.
