Logos and Policies<

This policy applies to all marketing materials, funded, in whole or in part, by funds from the Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MOTT) including regional tourism council (RTC) grants, so-called RTC mini grants, and special purpose grants.

The policy is designed to:

  • Co-brand all state-funded tourism marketing materials
  • Provide consumers with access to statewide travel planning information via massvacation.com.
  • Maintain the integrity of MOTT's logos
  • Acknowledge funding by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts

Marketing materials that do not comply with these policies will not be eligible for funding from MOTT.

LOGOS

There are three ways to get the logo:

LOGO STANDARDS

Logos must be reproduced directly from electronic files supplied by MOTT; artwork may not be altered in any way and resetting of type is not permitted.

When enlarging or decreasing the size of the logo, please be sure that the logo is not stretched vertically or horizontally.

Standard or Combo logos may be printed in any color or knocked out to white, subject to review by MOTT for eligibility. The Travel Info logo must be printed in black only.

MOTT logos may not be combined with other non-MOTT elements with one exception: the "Standard" logo may be combined with the name only of a region or Regional Tourism Council subject to approval by MOTT. Combos must be designed so that the MOTT logo remains the dominant image. Proposed combinations must be submitted for MOTT review by June 31 of each fiscal year. Submit proposals to John Alzapiedi

FUNDING CREDIT

Funding credit must be a stand-alone paragraph with minimum 8 point type.

Materials that require funding credit must include one of the following:

For pieces that are funded partially by MOTT funds use:
Funded [,in part,] by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Business and Technology/Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.
For pieces that are funded entirely by MOTT funds use:
Funded by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Business and Technology/Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.

For RTCs who want to acknowledge their so-called mini grants:
Funded [,in part,] by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Business and Technology/Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.

This [brochure/poster/ad . . .] project was made possible by a grant administered by the NAME OF RTC.

No other variations of the funding credit are permissible.

EXEMPTIONS

MOTT may exempt specific marketing projects from the logo/funding credit requirements. FY2008 exemption: advertorials in the free-standing newspaper inserts sponsored by MOTT.

APPROVAL PROCESS

  • Send MOTT approval form and layout/mockup via email prior to production to John Alzapiedi
  • Approvals are reviewed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • If art is being sent to MOTT directly from designer or printer, send approval form in advance.
  • Retain approval form and include in end-of-year report, along with copy of completed project.

To avoid delays in approval process:

  • Complete all sections of approval form; number requests sequentially for tracking purposes.
  • Double check logo and funding credit application before submitting to MOTT.
