Description:
The Museum of African American History, Boston and Nantucket, is the proud steward of two Black Heritage Trails® and four historic sites; three are National Historic Landmarks. The crown jewel is the beautifully restored African Meeting House (1806) on the north slope of Beacon Hill, the oldest extant black church building in the United States, and the last stop on the Boston Trail. On Nantucket, the African Meeting House (c1827) anchors the island's Trail in the community known as New Guinea. The Museum's mission is to preserve, conserve, and interpret the contributions of people of African descent in New England from the colonial period through the 19th century, and others who championed their pursuit of freedom and justice. Come to the Museum and walk in the footsteps of Frederick Douglass and all the brave men, women, and children who rallied for equal rights and access to quality education.
