CULINARY CALENDAR OF EVENTS

There are lots of great food festivals and fairs over the next few months. Check out our calendars below.

Massachusetts has something for everyone; world class shopping, historical sites, cultural events, scenic routes, and glorious food! From Cape Cod and the Islands to the Berkshire Hills, each Massachusetts region offers the epicurean something unique to savor at every stop. Where else would you expect to have such a celebrated variety of culinary options than the birthplace of the first Thanksgiving?

Our regional bounty presents exceptional culinary experiences throughout the seasons. Warm your winter with a visit to a Maple sugarhouse for pancakes with real maple syrup. Spring and summer welcome visits to farm stands and area farmers’ markets. A fall foliage trip would not be complete without a sampling of freshly pressed apple cider and cider donuts from a Massachusetts orchard. Whatever season you choose, your culinary journey would not be complete without a taste of a quality locally made product; cranberry jelly, a bowl of our “famous” clam "chowdah", a slice of Boston cream pie, award winning farmstead cheese, or a sip of locally produced wine and beer. Buy local in western Mass with Berkshire Grown.

WHAT'S HAPPENING

BERKSHIRE CHEFS BRING “THE BERKSHIRE CURE-ALL” TO NYC’s JAMES BEARD HOUSE
On Friday, March 1, a group of innovative Berkshire chefs will travel to the James Beard Foundation in New York City to present a farm-to-table dinner featuring foods harvested in the Berkshire region. Organized by Brian J. Alberg, Executive Chef and Food & Beverage Director at The Red Lion Inn, this year’s event entitled “The Berkshire Cure-All” will be prepared with foods using time-honored curing and preserving methods. This is Alberg’s 10th visit to the James Beard House and the 4th time he has invited a group of like-minded Berkshire chefs to collaborate and present the multifaceted culinary artisanship of the region. “The Berkshire Cure-All” reception and dinner will include Stephen Browning, chef at Bell & Anchor (Great Barrington); Terry Moore, chef-owner of The Old Mill (South Egremont); Jamie Paxton, chef at The Meat Market (Great Barrington); Daire Rooney, chef at Allium Restaurant + Bar (Great Barrington); Dan Smith, chef-owner of John Andrews: A Farmhouse Restaurant (South Egremont); and Zee Vassos, chef at Firefly (Lenox). Red Lion Inn Sommelier Dan Thomas will craft elixir-themed cocktail recipes and select cure-all wines to accompany the dinner’s reception and six courses. Evening begins at 7 p.m., seated tasting menu begins at 8 p.m. Cost is $130 pp for James Beard Foundation members and $170 pp for the general public. The James Beard House is located at 167 West 12th Street. For reservations, please call 212.627.2308. Beginning at noon on Friday, March 1, a team from The Red Lion Inn and Berkshire Farm & Table will be streaming live behind-the-scenes coverage of Berkshire chefs in the James Beard kitchen. Media coverage will include blog posts, Facebook and Twitter updates for up-to-the-minute storytelling as it takes place on-site in New York.
